What was once a mining town has now become a successful city of culture! Old industrial complexes that were once the beating heart of the Borinage coal-mining region have been transformed into nothing less than temples of culture. Mons is a city that takes pride in its folklore and architectural heritage: the collegiate church of St Waltrude, the city hall and the bell tower are phenomenal. The city genuinely deserves its title of Cultural Capital of Europe in 2015.
